The Staines Lammas band was originally known and set up as the Staines Brass youth/training band over 25 years ago to encourage and train young players to develop their playing skills and bridge the gap to the main band. But as Staines Brass moved up the contesting sections, some of its members preferred the more relaxed approach to music making and the youth band developed into a secondary band for those members who wished not to contest. The band went from strength to strength and took on engagements in its own right, and finally sought its own identity so renamed themselves the Staines Lammas Band, after the park in which both bands rehearse. In October 2002, Glenn Hayter took over as the band’s Musical Director and the band continues to thrive, enjoying a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and giving concerts in and around the area. Although the Staines Lammas Band are a non contesting band, they have had quite some success in the locally run Challenging Brass contest. |
